English program at the eighth grade level:
The program at the eighth grade level is an integrated reading and writing program consisting of both Reader's Workshop and Writer's Workshop. All students are required to have a binder/folder and a marble notebook, pen or pencil, highlighters, Post-its and index cards will also be needed. The program will include reading response, self-reflection, discussion on characters, theme, and author's craft, and ongoing reading skills. Narrative writing, analytical essays, non fiction inquiry, contemporary and classical literature, speech writing, and creative writing in the notebook will make up the writing portion. Vocabulary will be in the form of word study integrated into the various units of study.
